Community College

I went and visited SMC yesterday. I thought I would go to SMC, but after it took me over an hour to get their I realized it wasn't practical. So I walked around for half an hour, checked out the library, and left without taking my assessment test. I headed straight for PCC. Its convenient for me because its only fifteen minutes away from home, however, I was dissapointed when I got their. Not necessarily dissapointed with the school, but more so with myself. The campus is a gloomy one, and the people their are generally much less intelligent than the people I've been surrounded with my whole life at Buckley, but before I even noticed any of this I was cursing myself. I told myself, "You should've never been in this mess in the first place. You shouldn't even be driving around the greater Los Angeles area and doing 15 year old, outdated video orientations. YOU SHOULDN'T be taking an assessment and registering at a community college. Look what you've done". I think I'll feel differently after I've registered and have my classes, but as of right now, I am not happy with myself. I never applied myself in high school and never took it seriously. Yes, I am venting right now. But I promised myself that I wouldn't harp on it. I am where I am now, and I need to make the best out of it. I need to finally be a good student. This is my life. This is my future. But this still sucks.
Sorry for the rant,
Yours truly,
Aram

THE END OF THE WORLD

It doesn't take a Tsunami hitting Japan, a new war breaking out in the Middle East, or fear of Nuclear disaster all over the world for you to know that the end of the world IS coming. You know the world is ending when a man gets in a shoot out with police over a 50 cent increase in the price of his favorite taco bell "Beef Crunch Burrito". Yesterday, in San Antonio, a man opened fire on a taco bell cashier with an air gun after finding this out. The police were called, and a gunfight broke out. The culprit, Ricardo Jones, pulled an assault rifle out of his trunk, and then opened fire on police. Luckily, no one was hurt. Jones was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. IF the world does end next year, in my opinion it will not be by natural disaster like all the movies depict. The human race is going to faulter, people are going to turn on each other, and our society will slowly crumble. All the precious things that humans have created (nuclear power-plants) will malfunction. Anyway, enough of my conspiracy theory. Getting back to Ricardo Jones, he definitely reminds me of Meursault. Just a man that finally snapped. Set off by one little thing.

Արամ Կարի -The stranger

There are two kinds of angry people. There is the guy who will blow up in Starbucks because his coffee is to cold and spill it on the person who made it. And then there is the guy who works at Starbucks, who puts up with all those angry customers for months, and then finally snaps and murders all his sunday morning regulars. Meursault is the latter of the two. He seems so depressed and without purpose. So grey. So insensitive. So far, the book has not revealed that Meursault has anyone that is close to him. He bottles up all his feelings, and never speaks to anyone. After a whole sunday of watching the street from his balcony and observing people, Meursault says: "It occured to me that anyway one more Sunday was over, that Maman was buried now, that I was going back to work, and that, really, nothing had changed."

Underground Bay Area hip hop and Conformity

Our latest endeavor in class was Kafka's The Metamorphasis. We discussed and wrote about all aspects of conformity. From our grandmother's to our own experiences in conforming to society, we thoroughly contemplated the topic. I'd like to take this opportunity to write about an extremely gifted and talented young artist from the Bay Area. His name is M-Jaf, and he's been rapping since the age of 14. At first he stuck to the traditional Hyphy rapping style, but now has transitioned to a more modern Atmosphere New Yorkish style type of Hip Hop. Talking about not conforming? This is a HUGE deal in the bay area. Usually artists from the bay are strictly and ONLY BAY. But M-Jaf can get away with it because he is extremely talented in both worlds. Mastering both the "gangsta" style hyphy rap and the true Hip Hop style. In terms of Jaf's talent, personally I think its unmatched. His ability to rhyme and reach deep into his soul is astounding. With his craaaaazzyyy beats, Jaf's music is not only appealing to the ear, but it really makes you think. M-Jaf's latest step away from conformity was actually moving to New York city. The exact opposite of traditional Bay area music. This is what pushed Jaf's music to the next level. While in NYC he completed his latest album and transformed his style in the best of ways. Jaf is by far one of the dopest artists I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. From the tone of his voice, to the perplexing content of his music, he is the ideal rapper. I know Jaf's music because him and my cousin grew up together. But I suggest any Hip Hop fan to check him out. You can find his music on itunes. My favorite albums are 3 years and runnin' and his brand new album Dear Jodi

Class discussion

Our class discussion was very interesting. Although we did go off on a tangent multiple times, for example what kind of bugs we would like to wake up as, I do believe that our discussion was productive. We thoroughly assessed Metamorphosis, symbols, and all its underlying meanings. I feel that from my group, tony and lauren contributed alot to the conversation. Also, i feel that it was very important that we discussed the meaning of civilization. It helped everyone to analyze the story further.

Psychological Journey

As we get further and further into the story, it get harder and harder to understand because of Marlow's choppy and self serving way of speech. Also, his mental state is slowly getting worse. The psychological journey is about how Marlow runs away from or faces his fears.
